True to its word, Hewlett Packard Co. is upping its cloud services play. This time, the Palo Alto, Calif.-based hardware vendor is blatantly taking on rivals Dell Inc., Oracle Corp and others, rolling out a first wave of Software as a Service solutions aimed at accelerating its presence in Application Performance Management services markets. The hardware firm put feet to its ambitions with two product launches — HP Agile Manager and HP Performance Anywhere.
The first release, HP’s Agile Manager,comes with a host of other productivity and efficiency benefits. For one, it touts accelerated application time to market and an intuitive Web-based interface that increases visibility — features that aid solution providers in planning, executing and tracking development projects.
The SaaS tool also increases visibility in all facets for a project — tasks, metrics and progress – for single groups or multiple, geographically distrusted teams. But HP is heralding an array of other selling points that include the ability to simplify planning and capacity management, enhanced insight into application quality, upgraded collaboration with development environment integrations and real-time updates that elicit improved visibility into projects.
The tool also leverages HP’s Application Lifecycle Management and HP Quality Center, which combine to enable quality management and continuous testing capabilities.
HP’s second release, HP Performance Anywhere, also bulks up performance capabilities by monitoring applications on the Web and in mobile environments via the cloud. Its list of capabilities include automated, self-provisioned management, a user-friendly interface and smart analytics that detect performance aberrations. It also touts embedded social collaboration technology that enables solution providers to team with other departments to remediate application failures that might prompt productivity losses.
Both productivity tools, under the auspices of HP Converged Cloud, integrate with each other as well as HP Quality Center, which makes onboarding and deploying the solutions in customers’ environments a lot more digestible for solution providers. It also gives them a more expansive array of service options, which they can then easily tailor to meet customer needs.
“Enterprise agility results from the ability to quickly deploy simple-to-use, on-demand tools that provide visibility and collaboration across the application life cycle,” said Subbu Iyer, HP vice president, product and strategy, software. “Together, HP Agile Manager and HP Performance Anywhere provide intuitive, collaborative and analytical capabilities needed to enable development and operation teams to deliver business-driven results.”
No doubt, HPs recent collaboration and productivity launch will give its partners a wider spate of service options as the PC manufacturer parts ways with some of its unprofitable legacy hardware divisions in exchange for a sleeker, enterprise software oriented makeover.
However, many of HPs biggest rivals have slightly beaten the hardware firm to the punch. Not surprisingly, cloud technologies pave the way for market growth with broad market reach, providing flexibility, ease of use and a wider range of service options that can be leveraged as competitive differentiators. To that end, Dell Inc, now well into its software and services transformation launched a CRM cloud migration pack last May designed to blithely move data from the ground to the cloud.
Oracle Corp. swallowed up cloud marketing automation firm Eloqua last December – an investment it hopes will pave the way for cloud sales enablement, lead generation and revenue performance management capabilities for its customers.
Meanwhile, the application performance market is a niche still primed for growth – to the tune of around 14 percent between 2011 and 2015, according to a MarketsandResearch report, driven by strong demand for increased visibility. And the cloud will certainly be one of the most significant catalysts.
HPs most recent launch indicates that it will continue to spar in cloud performance management and CRM arenas without letting competitors get too much of an upper hand.
