SAP AG is looking to speed its development in the cloud with a new rapid deployment solution (RDS) that integrates the SAP ERP Human Capital Management (HCM) platform with the SuccessFactors Inc.’s Business Execution suite (BizX). SAP says the integration offers a pre-configured path between SAP ERP HCM version 6.0 and the BizX cloud app, providing a simple migration that is quick and cost effective, all thanks to SAP standardization.
SAP says this will accelerate the time to provide value within new cloud solutions by creating a “…hybrid HR environment that combines both on-premise and cloud-based software…and automatically transfers your HR data – including basic employee, compensation planning, and workforce analytics data – to the cloud.”
SAP says the ERP/BizX solution is the fourth SAP RDS that supports hybrid cloud environments. Preceding it are RDS solutions that take SAP’s CRM and integrate it with the SAP Jam social platform, an RDS that integrates SAP ERP with SAP Information OnDemand and lastly, an RDS for SAP Business Suite which links it securely into the Ariba Inc. Network. All of these RDS solutions are designed to take traditional on-premise software and create a bridge into cloud solutions. In total, SAP boasts over 150 RDS solutions that span its entire business line, including mobile, analytic and large databases.
In a prepared statement, Steven Birdsall, senior vice president and general manager of SAP’s Rapid Deployment solutions, called the approach “an express lane between the on-premise and cloud worlds for our customers.”
While this latest RDS offering may seem like a flash in the pan, it won’t be the last RDS addition to focuses on creating a on-ramp to the cloud. Last week, SAP brought over 500 of its SuccessFactors partners into the SAP PartnerEngage program as SAP widened its cloud portfolio and sought a larger base of partners ready to built and resell cloud solutions. With SuccessFactors partners already heavily invested in cloud, this smartly places SAP human capital where it can be most effective.
But to deepen the connection between SuccessFactor partner skills and SAP’s growing cloud offerings, RDS can be an effective way to reduce complexity in deployment, both for the partner and customer. As more SuccessFactor partners jump aboard PartnerEngage with different strengths, SAP will likely roll out additional RDS solutions that integrate many more existing SAP solutions with cloud-based counterparts, enabling an effective and efficient partner community.
Worth noting: RDS is also the major driving force behind SAP’s SME focus, which alludes to its long-term viability in future SAP cloud efforts.
