Sobel Joins GFI to Amp Up MSP Community

After a brief absence from the managed services scene, Dave Sobel has surfaced as the director of community at GFI MAX, the U.K.-based managed services software and services company. His arrival at GFI MAX is part of an ongoing effort by the company to expand its capabilities and MSP presence around the world.

“I’m very excited to be joining such an exceptional team at GFI MAX. This is a world-class community of solution providers of all sizes. My role is intended to help foster that collaboration and communication that drives both our partners and the industry forward, and I’m very much looking forward to it,” Sobel tells Channelnomics.

In his new role, Sobel will oversee development of community collaboration, partner education and events for the GFI MAX network of more than 9,000 managed service providers. Of particular interest is expanding GFI MAX’s penetration in the U.S. market, where Sobel is a well-known managed services advocate.

“My focus is in several areas, including engaging our existing channel with new resources, bringing market data and analysis to those partners and the industry as a whole, and delivering education to help grow business and technology capacity,” Sobel said.

Sobel is a well-known figure in the managed services community. For 15 years, he was the owner/operator of Evolve Technologies, a Virginia-based managed services firm that earned praise and admiration for its innovation and effective application of the services model. He was also an outstanding advocate and participate in the HTG Peer Groups, where he help spread awareness of virtualization opportunities.

In 2011, Sobel sold his business, shortly after joining Level Platforms as its director of communities, a role similar to the one he holds at GFI MAX. Sobel briefly remained in his role following the acquisition of Level Platforms by AVG Technologies. He left AVG in September.

Sobel hasn’t been completely absence from the managed services marketplace. Over the last three months, he’s attended several conferences and events, keeping in touch and circulation with vendors and solution providers.

GFI MAX, a division of GFI Software, is rapidly expanding its product capabilities and global presence. In recent months, GFI MAX has added greater manageability, mobile device management and backup solutions to its managed services portfolio. Sobel’s role is seen as an integral part of the company’s effort to maximize performance of existing users and attract new MSPs to the GFI MAX ranks.
