Accellion Makes Cloud Connection

As of a couple of days ago, customers of Accellion, a vendor of private cloud solutions for secure file sharing and collaboration, can use Accellion’s kiteworks platform to view, edit, and share content in the cloud anytime, anywhere. That’s because the company has introduced content connectors for two cloud content stores: Microsoft OneDrive for Business and Google Drive for Work.

Through its content connectors, the kiteworks platform provides secure, real-time access to files from any desktop, laptop, or mobile device. The latest move by Accellion brings the number of kiteworks-connected applications to six—SharePoint, Windows File Shares, Documentum, OpenText, Google Drive, and Microsoft OneDrive.

“Today’s mobile professionals need real-time access to content whether it’s stored in the cloud, behind a firewall, or on a mobile device,” said Vidhya Ranganathan, senior vice president of products at Accellion, Palo Alto, Calif. “Companies need to separate their thinking regarding content storage and content access, and view the two as separate entities.”

Accellion execs say cloud content connectors for kiteworks provide a host of benefits. With a single, user-friendly interface, users can view all content, whether it resides in the cloud or inside an on-premise content management system. File access is secure; IT departments have full audit and reporting capabilities for files stored and shared via cloud content repositories; and organizations enjoy complete visibility into enterprise content sharing to achieve compliance with government and industry regulations such as HIPAA.

Accellion relies on the channel to deliver its solutions to a diverse customer base consisting of enterprises in more than 10 verticals, from healthcare (Kaiser Permanente) and education (Harvard University) to government (NASA) and consumer goods (Procter & Gamble). Through its three-tiered global partner program, launched in the first quarter of 2013, the vendor offers marketing resources, technical support, and qualified leads to solution providers, resellers, and distributors.
