Acquisition aims to ease effort, lower cost of getting users aboard vendor’s Cloud Archive
Mimecast on Tuesday announced the purchase of London-based Simply Migrate, a maker of data migration tools whose technology should help pull more new and existing users into its Cloud Archive service.
The Lowdown: Mimecast, which specializes in e-mail security and data protection, said the Simply Migrate acquisition brings with it a broad array of data connectors, as well as experience helping customers reduce costs, safeguard intellectual property, accelerate e-discovery, and improve regulatory compliance by transitioning customers from legacy archives to next-generation data protection strategies.
The Details: Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Buzz: “Legacy archiving systems are outdated and unable to handle growth and ever-changing demands of a modern enterprise,” said Mimecast CEO Peter Bauer. “Many organizations struggle with the ballooning e-mail storage volumes alongside other unstructured data types, coupled with the cost and management burdens of storing it on-premises. The technology Simply Migrate offers is engineered to provide end-to-end migration into the Mimecast Cloud Archive, helping to cut costs and operational complexity while achieving a superior result with more flexible access to data, case management, supervision, and more.”
