GSI purchases Cognosante, expanding vertical staff and intellectual property
NTT Data Services, a subsidiary of Japan-based global systems integrator NTT Data, is buying the health systems management division of Virginia-based Cognosante Consulting to expand into state-level government health care information management.
The Lowdown: The global systems integrator, which already provides health care data management and support to medical institutions and government agencies, will expand its practice for deploying and integrating patient and benefit management systems for state health and human services agencies.
The Details: The acquisition of Cognosante will add more than 250 specialists along with decades of intellectual property for managing state health care systems. Cognosante has worked in 48 states on developing and integrating health care information management systems, and has experience in working on Medicaid systems in more than 20 states.
The Buzz: “The acquisition of Cognosante’s consulting practice immediately establishes us as a leader in a growing health and human services market and enhances the value we can deliver to our clients in the public sector and healthcare,” said Bob Pryor, CEO of NTT Data Services. “This acquisition is the latest in our ongoing strategy of growth by strategic acquisitions that augment our specialized industry expertise and geographical presence.”
“Combining our team with the resources and expertise of NTT Data will enhance our ability to serve clients as they continue to modernize their IT systems to support business transformation,” said Jim Joyce, general manager of Cognosante’s consulting practice. He will continue to lead the organization and serve as senior vice president of NTT Data Services.
