Distributor acquires intY to bolster its cloud distribution and management capabilities
ScanSource is getting into the cloud computing distribution game through the acquisition of intY, a provider of cloud distribution and management platform. The addition of intY gives ScanSource the ability to compete with established and emerging cloud distributors and expand its cloud presence internationally.
The Lowdown: The South Carolina-based distributor snapped up intY for its CASCADE platform, which provides cloud distribution and channel management capabilities including software service provisioning, data monitoring and analytics, subscription and billing management, licensing management, and marketing resources. The platform enables ScanSource to offer solution providers the ability to source, sell, manage, and support cloud-based services without having to develop their own resources.
The Details: ScanSource, which is best known as a niche or specialty distributor, plans to leverage intY and CASCADE to expand its presence in the cloud computing market, the telecommunications services segment, and internationally. The company says it will invest in multiple-language support for CASCADE to assist partners across North America, Europe, and Brazil. ScanSource also sees significant opportunity to tie in the telecom service relationships and capabilities of its master agent division, Intelisys.
The Impact: While intY’s CASCADE is a substantial cloud management platform, ScanSource is playing catch-up in the cloud distribution game. Major distributors such as Ingram Micro (Ingram Cloud and Cloud Blue), Tech Data, and Synnex have well-established and substantial cloud practices and platforms. D&H Distributing recently announced the development of greater cloud distribution focus and resources. And emerging cloud distributors such as Pax8 and AppDirect are well-entrenched and disrupting traditional distribution. The advantage intY gives ScanSource is its presence and foothold in its native United Kingdom.
The Buzz: “CASCADE serves as the next piece in our continuing digital strategy and provides partners with critical capabilities, including software provisioning, data analytics, seat management, billing, and support, so partners can sell more strategic cloud solutions and build strong recurring revenue practices,” said Mike Baur, chairman and CEO of ScanSource.
“At a time when partners want to deliver increased value, intY’s award-winning CASCADE platform and Partner Insights™, along with the depth of the ScanSource and Intelisys portfolios, provide the market with a very compelling solution provider,” said Craig Joseph, CEO of intY.
“ScanSource’s ability to scale, along with the speed of intY’s CASCADE platform, is going to be a great combination for the continued growth of Microsoft cloud services,” said Gavriella Schuster, corporate vice president of One Commercial Partner at Microsoft. “With the many routes to market that ScanSource provides, and the expertise of intY and its platform, this will be a tremendous opportunity for customers, partners, and Microsoft.”
