Deal is latest step in the vendor’s push to grow its U.S. footprint
CriticalStart, which sells managed detection and response (MDR) services, on Thursday announced a distribution agreement with Synnex and its Westcon-Comstor division as part of a larger effort by the vendor to expand its presence in the United States.
The Lowdown: The deal with Synnex comes as CriticalStart is gaining some momentum. The company in June announced a $40 million minority investment from venture capital firm Sagemount, money that officials said will be used in part to establish field offices in Los Angeles and New York City.
The Details: CriticalStart is relying on Synnex and its network- and security-focused unit to work with tech vendors to develop solutions that can be brought to market through Synnex’s channel partners. Synnex also will support the partners before and during the sale. CriticalStart delivers its MDR services via a cloud-based security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR) platform that addresses all alerts until they’re classified as good or normal and can be resolved. The result is a 99% reduction in alerts, officials said.
Background: CriticalStart’s MDR business grew 300% last year and had a 99% customer retention rate. Security technology partners include Carbon Black, Cylance, Microsoft, Palo Alto Networks, and Splunk.
The Buzz: “Faced with an overwhelming number of alerts, companies are being forced into compromises by their managed security providers, leading to unnecessary risk and increasing breaches,” said Alin Srivastava, vice president of business development at CriticalStart. “This agreement with Synnex will play a significant role in rapidly expanding our geographic reach and sales coverage across the U.S. as more companies turn to our approach that resolves all security events and adapts to each customer’s unique needs. Synnex’s best-in-class distribution and logistics capabilities, combined with its cybersecurity expertise and a vast network of channel partners, make it ideal for promoting and selling our unique MDR services on a national scale.”
“CriticalStart is an important player in the cybersecurity space, and we’re pleased to help them expand their U.S. footprint,” said Scott Young, vice president of product management at Synnex. “By pairing our market expertise and value-added support offerings with CriticalStart’s compelling solution, resellers are able to better address this important market segment.”
