Company offers Acronis Backup on its HC3 infrastructure platform
Scale Computing is adding more data protection capabilities to its HC3 edge infrastructure platform with Acronis’ backup, archiving, and threat mitigation technologies.
The Lowdown: Scale already offers its own Scale Computing Data Protection Suite on the HC3 platform, which provides such features as high availability, replication, and recovery. At the same time, some customers add other types of storage from third-party vendors that aren’t already available on HC3. Now Scale can offer those capabilities with HC3 through Acronis’ Backup offering.
The Details: By leveraging Acronis Backup on HC3, Scale customers can leverage enhanced backup capabilities for mission-critical environments while saving as much as 10 times the storage space and using automated administration features to reduce the backup work. Acronis Backup can scale easily and is available for either on-premises environments or in the cloud. The Acronis product offers such features as:
>Long-term retention for data archival: Enterprises can store backups on inexpensive storage for long-term retention, enabling them to meet compliance requirements.
>Acronis Active Protection: The anti-ransomware technology leverages machine learning models to detect and stop ransomware while recovering affected files.
>Full bare-metal system recovery: Recovery speeds are up to twice as fast as competing products, officials said.
>Acronis Universal Restore: Used to recover an entire system to the same or different hardware or virtual machine (VM) by detecting boot requirements automatically.
>Granular recovery: Organizations can find and restore specific files or folders rather than having to recover full databases or systems.
Acronis Backup protects almost all supported VM operating systems on the HC3 platform and can back up and restore individual VMs. It also stores backup data in such locations as HC3 virtual disks, NAS or SAN storage environments, and public clouds.
The Impact: Ransomware continues to be a significant threat to businesses. While there was a drop in ransomware instances in 2018, the number of attacks in this year’s first quarter jumped 195%, according to cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes.
The Buzz: “Faced with ever-increasing volumes of data along with the growing threat of ransomware and other malware, IT professionals are under tremendous pressure to protect everything while ensuring production systems aren’t impacted,” said Pat Hurley, vice president and general manager of Americas for Acronis. “The good news is that protecting your organization’s data doesn’t have to be difficult. With Acronis Backup on Scale Computing HC3, organizations gain a fast, scalable cyber-protection solution that won’t consume their limited IT budgets.”
“Data protection and disaster recovery are a necessity for IT organizations today, and many of our HC3 customers have implemented effective disaster recovery strategies that combine per-VM snapshot scheduling with replication, failover, and recovery,” said Scale co-founder and CEO Jeff Ready. “Each HC3 appliance has built-in VM snapshots with scheduling capabilities that are flexible enough to implement almost any backup strategy. With Acronis Backup, HC3 users are enabled to add market-leading archiving and data protection capabilities to their infrastructure. Our technologies are highly complementary, and HC3 customers, who are used to the flexibility and ease of use of our platform, will also benefit from the performance, ROI, and TCO advantages offered by Acronis Backup.”
