Company adds more tools for users, IT departments
LogMeIn is rolling out a revamped GoTo unified communications and collaboration (UCC) portfolio with an enhanced GoToMeeting service that gives users more intuitive tools and IT staffs more control over the deployment, management, and security of the offering.
The Lowdown: The Boston-based company used feedback from thousands of customers to come up with the new GoToMeeting service, which enhances the video and audio experience, includes a new meeting hub, and adds more transcription capabilities powered by artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
The Details: The upgraded GoToMeeting service is designed to enable enterprises and partners to better address a workforce that’s becoming more mobile and demands the ability to work and collaborate where and when they want and on any device they choose. The enhancements include:
> Pre-meeting: The Hub, for a single place for meetings that include information, diagnostics, chat, and starting and scheduling meetings; scheduling hosts that can create multiple personal meeting rooms; updated integrations with Office 365, Outlook, GSuite Calendar, Salesforce, and other cloud services; and 65% faster join times.
> In meeting: An easier video meeting experience, with user controls more prominent and hosts being able to choose multiple camera views, zoom in and out, and take screenshots. The audio quality has been enhanced and there’s a consistent experience across devices. Also, a real-time note-taking feature will be available soon.
> Post-meeting: AI-powered transcriptions within minutes, capturing and sharing presentations slides in a PDF that can be downloaded, and an easier way to view, download, and share transcripts, video, and notes with attendees.
> For IT staff: Diagnostic reports on meetings, including audio and video quality, and the ability to detect and troubleshoot problems, joining GoToMeeting session via the InRoom Link feature with SIP and H.323 video room systems, and security features like standards-based cryptography and compliance with SOC (Security Operations Center) 2 and 3.
The Impact: LogMeIn is gearing up for what company officials say will be a push among enterprises to invest in UCC capabilities in 2020. In a survey conducted in conjunction with market research firm Ovum, the vendor found that 70% of respondents are planning to make such investments, two-thirds say that communications and collaboration are “business critical,” and 60% expect a positive return on investment (ROI) within a year.
The Buzz: “The very nature of work is changing, and we wanted to create a new GoToMeeting that is simple, fast and intuitive for users, while also giving IT a collaboration platform that sets them up for the future. Today we’re releasing the videoconferencing experience of tomorrow to revolutionize the way people collaborate with the most modern solution available,” said Mark Strassman, senior vice president and general manager of UCC at LogMeIn. “Through thousands of conversations and feedback from our customers, we reimagined the new GoToMeeting to deliver a delightful end-user experience, while also providing the security and reliability IT expects from a trusted communications and collaboration provider.”
“With this new release of its UCC offering, LogMeIn has focused on items that matter to end-users – ease of use, faster join times, consistency across devices and platforms, and more,” said Ira M. Weinstein, founder and managing partner at Recon Research. “This is not a coat of paint on a legacy product. This is a new solution architected from the ground up to add value before, during, and after the meeting experience. In short, this is a big deal.”
