Cybersecurity vendor has presence in cloud and on premises
Tech Data is adding to the security tools it can offer customers by partnering with Carbon Black, which develops cloud-based endpoint protection solutions.
The Lowdown: Through the partnership, Tech Data’s more than 125,000 IT reseller customers will have access to the full breadth of Carbon Black’s portfolio, including the CB Defense next-generation antivirus and endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution and CB Predictive Security Cloud platform, for on-premises and cloud environments.
The Details: The Clearwater, Florida-based distributor announced the partnership this week at the company’s TechSelect event in Orlando. Carbon Black also has offerings for advanced threat hunting and incident response, real-time endpoint query and remediation, and security for virtualized data centers in the cloud, as well as application whitelisting, infrastructure protection, and threat hunting for on-premises data centers.
The company, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, also has managed alert monitoring and triage capabilities. Carbon Black leverages Big Data and behavioral analytics to fuel its solutions.
The Impact: The partnership with Carbon Black is only the latest security-focused alliance by Tech Data this year. The distributor entered into an agreement with OPAQ Networks to address Network Security-as-a-Service in September, partnered with Deep Instinct in May for deep learning technology aimed at stopping cyberattacks, and hooked up with DNS technology provider BlueCat for network security in April.
Background: The latest announcement comes as VMware looks to buy Carbon Black for $2.1 billion. Officials with the giant virtualization company see a chance to expand its cloud security capabilities with Carbon Black in the fold.
The Buzz: “Growing trends in mobility and cloud have made the endpoint the new perimeter. New and emerging attacks are defeating traditional cyberdefenses, and security teams need sophisticated tools to address these threats,” said Alex Ryals, vice president of security solutions in North America for Tech Data. “Through the combination of Carbon Black products and others from our expansive security portfolio, Tech Data customers can now offer their clients solutions that can protect them from the core to the edge of their network.”
“We’re constantly seeing the landscape change as new threats are deployed to maliciously catch organizations off guard. It has created a challenging dynamic for security teams as they grapple with addressing unknown threats. Our technology is developed with this challenge in mind,” said Victor Baez, vice president of worldwide channels at Carbon Black. “Between our innovative solution set and Tech Data’s expertise and portfolio available to its customers in security, we believe that our combined efforts can help organizations better secure their infrastructure at all levels.”
