Mercer Rowe comes with experience at IBM, VMware, Avaya
Commvault is naming two executives with deep expertise in the channel to help lead its channel and sales efforts.
The Lowdown: The data backup and management company announced the appointments of Mercer Rowe as vice president of global channels and alliances and Edison Peres as a strategic go-to-market advisor at its Commvault GO 2019 show in Denver, where it also unveiled a number of new solutions and services.
The Details: Rowe comes to Commvault after holding executive and channel positions with such top-tier vendors as Avaya, IBM, and VMware, where he was CEO of a joint venture created by the virtualization company and Japanese tech giant Softbank after spending time leading VMware’s partner strategy around the cloud. Most recently, he was vice president of business development at Qumulo, a cloud storage company.
Peres spent 14 years helping to build and lead Cisco’s channel organization and also held channel and sales executive positions at Avaya, Lucent, and AT&T.
Commvault made other announcements at the show as well:
> Software-defined storage: New capabilities in its Hedvig portfolio include support for the Container Storage Interface, built-in data center availability, support for erasure coding, and multi-data center cluster management, alerting, and reporting.
> Data insights and governance: Enhancements to the Commvault Activate solution include file access controls for File Storage Optimization, new redaction functions, and a flexible licensing plan.
Background: The appointments of Rowe and Peres and the unveiling of product enhancements came at the same show that Commvault announced its new Metallic Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) data protection program for midmarket customers.
The Buzz: “Commvault has a world-class partner organization, and it’s my job to take that strong foundation and shape it into an industry leader that helps partners transform their businesses and have the right conversations with customers,” Rowe said. “Commvault is a unique arbiter of data, not just a protector of it, and with our partners we can help customers through the next stage of their transition to a multi-cloud future.”
“I plan to bring my decades of experience in building and running strategic go-to-market sales and marketing programs and global business operations to help Commvault drive extraordinary results through leadership and organizational transformation,” Peres said. “Commvault’s commitment to innovation is advancing at a rapid pace, and I’m excited to help the company navigate and accelerate its return to growth.”
“Our goals as a company are to simplify, innovate, and execute. Achieving those goals starts with talent. We continue to strengthen our team with the industry expertise and strategic minds that will drive a consistent level of operational excellence, continued expansion into new routes to market, and the elevation of Commvault’s relationships with new and existing partners,” said Riccardo Di Blasio, Chief Revenue Officer at Commvault. “The caliber of our leadership team is second-to-none. The additions of Mercer and Edison will be key to our next stage of growth.”
