Company expands reach of cloud-based OfficeSuite UC
Windstream, a company that has gotten more attention this year for its troubled financial situation than for its products and services, is looking to SMBs as a growth driver for its cloud-based communications offering.
The Lowdown: The company this week said it’s making its OfficeSuite UC solution available to SMB customers that use its Kinetic Business by Windstream broadband connectivity service.
The Details: OfficeSuite UC is a Unified Communications-as-a-Service (UCaaS) offering that’s designed to enable workers to communicate at any time on any device from any location. Features include:
> Communications: The solution brings together such communications tools as calling, visual voicemail, instant messaging, presence, fax, and audio and videoconferencing onto a single platform.
> Mobility: Organizations can use softphone applications or mobile twinning to enable “find me, follow me” accessibility, so that incoming calls can be received at multiple locations on multiple devices.
> Continuity: Communications can continue even if the office loses power.
> Administrative portal: Organizations can customize and configure user profiles and call routing, and employees can manage calling features online.
The Impact: SMBs are becoming a larger market for vendors, channel partners, and telecommunications service providers that sell UCaaS solutions. According to Gartner analysts, UCaaS is the preferred model among companies with fewer than 1,000 employees for delivering UC capabilities.
Background: Windstream’s push into the SMB UCaaS market comes as the company continues to reorganize after Windstream Holdings – the parent company of Windstream Communications – declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year following a loss in court related to its Uniti spinoff. The company announced a massive $2.3 billion loss earlier in the year. For the second quarter, Windstream said revenue came in at $1.29 million, less than the $1.4 million generated a year earlier.
The Buzz: “At Kinetic Business, we’re focused on providing innovative communications solutions that help our customers win in a dynamic marketplace,” said Jeff Small, president of the company’s consumer and small-and-midsize business segment. “OfficeSuite UC empowers businesses with mobile video presentation and conferencing capabilities that can be powerful tools to connect with customers.”
“OfficeSuite has changed the way we do business, and really, where we do business,” said Kinetic Business customer Megan Odom of Southern Insurance. “My work takes me out of the office a lot; we have to inspect buildings and properties. But now my cell phone rings when my office phone rings. I can still take care of my clients. OfficeSuite has really helped us to not miss an opportunity.”
