Company to scoop up growing cloud-native MSP
The Lowdown: Onica brings with it more than 350 consultants and AWS competencies across a range of areas, from DevOps and the Internet of Things (IoT) to data analytics, education, health care, and Microsoft workloads.
The Details: Onica CEO Stephen Garden and CTO Tolga Tarhan will continue to lead the Onica unit once the deal closes, which is expected to happen by the end of the year. They will report to Sid Nair, Rackspace’s general manager of Americas. No financial details were released.
Rackspace will use skills acquired from Santa Monica, California-based Onica to expand what the managed cloud provider can offer organizations that are growing their AWS environments and are looking for broad professional services for the cloud. The professional services Onica brings touch on strategy, architecture, engineering, and application development.
The Impact: With Onica in the fold, Rackspace ramps up its managed service expertise in AWS, the dominant player in the booming public cloud provider space with about 40% of the market, according to analysts at Synergy Research Group. It’s followed by Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Alibaba, all of which also have gained share.
The Buzz: “As a cloud pioneer, Onica has established itself as one of the largest pure-play AWS consultancies, with an unmatched reputation for true capability leadership with AWS and customers,” said Rackspace CEO Kevin Jones. “This acquisition will strengthen our ability to meet all of our customer needs on AWS, and together, we will have the most complete set of professional services and managed service capabilities in the industry. Rackspace is known for providing ‘Fanatical Experience’ to its customers and Onica’s customer-first mindset is a natural culture fit. We’re thrilled to welcome Stephen, Tolga, and the talented Onica team to the Racker family.”
“By combining our capabilities with Rackspace’s global presence, resources, and scale, we’ll be better positioned to achieve our mission of helping customers innovate using AWS,” Garden said. “We pride ourselves on delivering results for customers, and in Rackspace we’ve found a partner that shares our passion for providing a customer-obsessed experience.”
