Web application firewall is part of vendor’s new security platform
Barracuda Networks is rolling out new measures to protect enterprises’ web-facing applications, including a web application firewall (WAF) that can be deployed as a service built on Microsoft’s Azure public cloud and available through the Azure Marketplace.
The Lowdown: The WAF-as-a-Service is part of Barracuda’s new Cloud Application Protection (CAP) platform that was introduced at Microsoft’s Ignite show this week and is designed to address the increasingly complex cyberthreats facing organizations.
The Details: Along with the WAF capabilities, the CAP platform also includes application vulnerability scanning and remediation, protection against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, advanced bot protection, and API security. Systems integrators and resellers also can bundle CAP solutions into their own offerings.
The WAF-as-a-Service offering can be deployed across all 54 cloud regions in Azure and comes with the granular controls and customization found in Barracuda’s on-premises WAF. It can be deployed in minutes through a series of clicks.
Also at the Microsoft show, Barracuda is putting a focus on its CloudGen Firewall with Microsoft Virtual WAN support.
The Buzz: “Organizations need application security that’s both easy to manage and flexible enough to protect applications wherever they are deployed,” said Tim Jefferson, senior vice president of data protection, network and application security, engineering, and product management at Barracuda. “Barracuda Cloud Application Protection platform and WAF-as-a-Service hosted on the public cloud make that possible for a broader market.”
“We believe customers benefit from having a single, easy-to-understand solution that meets their needs securely,” said Alex Brown, CEO of IT service management company 10th Magnitude. “Bundling our services with Barracuda’s WAF to create the Healthcare Optimized Azure CAF Landing Zone helps us deliver a streamlined experience for our customers, with the peace of mind that comes with knowing a strong security solution is already built into it.”
“Barracuda has experience in security, and they understand how to work with partners and customers in our ecosystem,” said Ann Johnson, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Cybersecurity Solutions Group. “We look forward to continuing to work with Barracuda to help organizations operate in the cloud securely.”
